- Founded the whistleblowing platform WikiLeaks.
- Has been stuck in England since 2010 due to persecution by the empire (USA): first in the Equadorian embassy, and since 2019 in London's high-security Belmarsh prison.
- Is now being supported to a varying degree by a broad spectrum of civil society.
- Has a strong supporter in the former UN Special Representative on Torture, Nils Melzer, who is not at a loss for clear words: “A murderous system is being created before our eyes,” he says about the Assange case in a German interview. His book The Trial of Julian Assange is also highly recommended.
- There are regular vigils for Julian Assange in various European cities. At freeassange.eu there is an overview of dates and lots of background and current information.
- From 2020 until today, I have almost always attended the vigil that takes place every 14 days in Düsseldorf (I miss maybe 3 or 4 dates a year).
