Prague by Train 2007 - All Image Descriptions

In March 2007 I travelled to Prague for five days. The journey's main purpose was to attend the ESN Annual General Meeting, which caused my first three days in Prague to be pretty much organised and planned for me. That is why most pictures in this gallery are of the last two days, when I had more time to stroll through the city. During the AGM all participants stayed at a Hotel (picture from this gallery's partner gallery on ESN Dortmund), but later I moved on to Miss Sophie's Hostel.

	Berlin Hauptbahnhof Berlin's new Central Station is one of the few big multi-level stations in the world.
	Empty Platforms This shot is not from the middle of the night, but from 12:30 pm (noon) - a strange sight.
	Prague at Night
	View over the river By coincidence this photo is very similar to one with the subtitle 'Karlsbrücke und Prager Burg' (Charles Bridge and Prague Castle) from the (German) Wikipedia entry on Prague.
	Descent ...on what might well be the longest escalators I ever saw.
	Robotron Radio A device from a socialist state combine - history at your fingertips.
	Escalator #2 ...but this time I took the photo by myself, with the camera held as high over my head as possible.

	Overhead Contact Line Web Almost everywhere in Prague you find trams...
	Rest at a Park Here at the park I enjoyed my first warm days of the year (there had still been snow in Dortmund and Berlin a few days before!) and wrote some postcards.
	Náměstí Míru Because it was near my new location, I returned to the Náměstí Míru (Peace Square), where I had already been the day before.
	Open Air Music Again this is on the square from the previous two pictures. But before the music started I moved on to see some more things in the city.

	US Embassy The American Embassy is situated on a nice place on the hill, and of course getting close to the building seems rather difficult.
	German Embassy
	Rückansicht At the Embassy ESN was invited to the 50-years celebration of the European Union. We also could watch an interesting documentary on the role of the embassy building in the course of the German reunification.
	Missile Defense? To me this campaign looks like black humor, but, unfortunately, according to their “statement” (scroll down for English version) it is not.

	Hostel Vesta A (currently closed) hostel at the overall very run-down, but once certainly glamorous central station.
	Geisterhafte Bahnhofshalle An eery light, the high entrance hall, derelict Art Nouveau decorations, a café with dark figures... my video game education now leads to my imagining that this would be a great station for the “Phantom Train” from Final Fantasy.
	Plans for Renovation Hopefully the station will not be totally changed and commercialised.

	A Bank This logo is exactly what my bank in Germany has. But there was not a single ATM in the whole big representative building... and since I don't know Czech, I refrained from my plan of withdrawing money without being charged bank fees.
	Modern Church An interesting building near the metro stop “J. z Poděbrad”.

	Aliens Strange creatures are climbing this tower...
	Plaster, Cars, and Houses
	Early Spring The trees are still winterly-naked, and the little children wear beanies and coats.
	Lovely Balkony
	Praha-Holešovice The station I arrived at and departed from - with a friendly service for German and Russian speaking travellers.
	Berlin-Spandau Here I a not even near the end of the platform yet. At the EuroCity train from Prague passengers travelling in the direction of Cologne were advised to change here, rather than at the central station, to avoid long walks to a different platform.
